About the School

History

The School of Public Health at Alborz University of Medical Sciences (ABZUMS) was originally established as part of the Karaj branch of Iran University of Medical Sciences. Following the official foundation of Alborz University of Medical Sciences as an independent academic institution in November 2011, the School of Public Health began its activities with six undergraduate (Karshenasi) and associate degree (Kardani) programs.

Today, the School operates as an independent and specialized academic unit with six educational departments, multiple research centers, and several advanced teaching and laboratory facilities. “Our undergraduate and graduate programs now include the newly launched School Health (School-Based Health) program, preparing future leaders to improve health in schools and communities.”

Basically, Public Health focuses on protecting and improving the health of communities and populations, including disease prevention, health promotion, epidemiology, environmental and occupational health, and public health policy and that is what we feel committed to actualize it.

The School is home to a distinguished faculty and a dedicated administrative staff, all working together to advance public health education and research in Iran.
The School is dedicated to educating highly skilled professionals, advancing public health research, and promoting community well-being. With a commitment to innovation, academic excellence, and cross-professional collaboration, we strive to improve health outcomes locally and nationally.

The School of Public Health at ABZUMS strives to become a national model of innovation and excellence in public health education, research, and community engagement.
Through the enablement of competent human resources and leveraging the scientific potential of Alborz Province, we aim to be recognized among the leading schools of public health in the country - distinguished by the quality and quantity of our graduates, our innovative educational and research programs, and our impact on improving population health.

Our mission is to contribute to the promotion of community health through applied and fundamental research, capacity building, and the advancement of public health sciences and technologies.

Through systematic development and faculty empowerment, the School fosters a culture of creativity, motivation, and productivity among its academic and administrative members.

This division is tasked with various duties, such as student welfare, cultural initiatives, recreational programs, and the management of nutrition affairs. It facilitates meetings between the dean, faculty officials, and student representatives to ensure effective communication. Additionally, it monitors and offers essential guidance on disciplinary issues, organizes academic counseling sessions, and coordinates national and religious events.

This department operates under the Deanship of the Faculty and is tasked with fostering and enhancing research, educational, and service collaborations between the Faculty of Health and various industries and organizations. The office strives to highlight the capabilities of the Faculty of Health, facilitate the development of necessary solutions to societal and industrial challenges by faculty members, and support the advancement of focused research within the faculty while securing financial resources. Additionally, all administrative functions concerning the Faculty's contracts with industry are managed through this office.

The School of Public Health comprises 12 laboratory units that specialize in various domains, including chemistry, water and wastewater chemistry, air pollution, waste and radioactive materials, chemical agents, physical agents, ergonomics, device analysis, research, physics, safety, and microbiology plus a media lab. All these units operate under the umbrella of the laboratory unit.

Educational affairs, the organization and coordination of classes, collaboration with visiting professors and faculty, as well as matters concerning postgraduate education, are operationally executed and controlled by this unit. This unit works under the vice dean for education and the vise dean for research and graduate studies for different parts of the task-list.

Additionally, this unit manages the operations of the faculty library.
